Uhh, Robert…

While we’re talking about Podcasting, just saw this excellent reply to the podcasting hype by James Governor: Note to Steve Gillmor: Podcasting is still not mainstream. James then gets into comparing the RSS adoption of Microsoft and Google.

You’re right James, it’s not mainstream until it’s in the browser. Oh, no wait, it’s not mainstream until it’s in iTunes. Oh no, wait. It’s not mainstream until it’s in IE 7. Oh no, wait. When will we see IE7? Before or after 60 Days. Which is now 55 by the way.

Interestingly enough, the OneNote team was over here today for an interview and Chris Pratley joked with me that they had podcasting in the OneNote product plan three years ago but had to cut that feature in order to ship on time.

Right, Chris, just kidding like you did when you took XML out of Release 2 that you promised in a conversation we had three years ago. By the way, OneNote on the Tablet ROCKS oh so very much, and I’m not kidding. Fire Raikes and put Pratley in charge.

I agree with James Governor. Asking for someone in Office to be fired, like what Steve Gillmor asked, is pretty ludicrous. You fire people after they mess up a business. That clearly hasn’t happened yet on the Office team. Yes, we can have disagreements about their feature choices, but Office, so far, has shipped on schedule, has come out with innovative new products, like OneNote, and has interesting stuff coming soon. [Bold by ludicrous Gillmor]

Exactly right Robert. OK maybe it wasn’t Jeff Raikes… Then whose head rolls when they mess up Office? Better not be Steve Sinofsky–he’s being talked up as a Bill replacement. Yet? Microsoft Bob shipped on time. OneNote rocks but is a separate SKU from Office. The Tablet rocks too–how about shipping that as part of Office. Now you’re talking. No, wait, how about shipping OneNote as part of the Tablet and fire Outlook. That’s what I did. Gmail rocks. Firefox rocks. Skype rocks. How’s that for messing up a business?
