Gillmor Daily resurfaces with a conversation with Rafat Ali of paidcontent.org. In the Good Olde Days, Professor Irwin Corey would run down to the corner around 11 and pick up the next day’s Times. Then he would turn to the Obituaries and check people off the list. Today, Irwin is 90-something and still performing that same ritual, lamenting his friends and outlasting his enemies.
Out here on the West Coast, I wait for the Times to flow into Rojo, knowing full well that the clock is ticking down toward the imposition of the pay wall in September. I’ll probably spring for the $50, being the New Yorker I’ve been since birth at French Hospital (no longer there) on 30th St. But now a new breed has surfaced, led by the Rafats and Stacis and Oms and John Battelles, All the News that Hits my inforouter each night around 8 Pacific.
