When you are looking for things that Google is about to do, the best place to keep your eye on is Google’s robots.txt file — a document they keep updated with a list of websites they don’t want search engines to index. A week ago, they added “/search2001″ which turned out to be exactly what I thought — a place where you could search the internet as it was back in 2001.

They have just recently added yet another line which it’s meaning can be up for debate — what do you think it’s going to be? The entry is for “/ppob”, so my question is, what does PPOB stand for?

Of course when you’re looking for the meaning of something that appears to be an acronym, the first thing you should do is to Google it. After doing so, it appears that it’s acronym for “Principal Place of Business”. Whether or not that’s what Google means is another question.

If it is “Principal Place of Business”, my best guess is that it may have something to do with the local business center — maybe a place where you can define your head office?

Let’s hear your ideas in the Talkback!

Update:
It appears this is for a Russian-only service to search through classified ads — you can read the official announcement here.

[Thanks Tony!]
