Will Google be targeted by new Attorney General for Antitrust?

In an interview with Christine Varney, a newly nominated Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust by the Obama administration, she said that Google is a monopoly and should be investigated. If her nomination succeeds, we could see her going after the search giant in short order.

“[Google] has acquired a monopoly in internet online advertising”

“[Google is] quickly gathering market power in what I would call an online computing environment in the clouds,” she added.

“When all our enterprises move to computing in the clouds and there is a single firm that is offering a comprehensive solution, you’re going to see the repeat of Microsoft.”

It will be interesting to see how this story unfolds — I’m thinking that Google’s extreme consciousness of potential antitrust issues, and their ability and willingness to make changes quickly will save them from trouble. What do you think?
