Google Apps set for a big update Tuesday
It sounds like Google is planning a huge update to Google Apps Tuesday — it’s a mystery still as to what they may be announcing, but there are a couple of hints that have been dropped recently.
The first hint was in a tweet from Dave Girouard, Google Enterprise unit president. He said that they want Google Apps to include every Google service, period. That’s cool, but it’s probably going to probably take a bit more than that to make Google Apps a competitive enterprise solution.
The second hint was dropped a couple weeks ago by Dave again. He said that Google Docs is going to look drastically different from how it looks currently — but he also said this would happen over the next 12 months.
Personally, I would like to see Google Apps be less of a pure cloud based solution, and more of a solution that you can run inside your corporate network (perhaps using the Google cloud as almost a backup service). An announcement of something like this is highly unlikely, but it’s nice to dream!
Let’s hear your predictions for tomorrow’s announcement in the Talk Back!
