Google Maps is back

googlelocal-maps.jpgBack by popular demand is Google Maps — six months after it was renamed to "Google Local".  According to their blog, people continued to use maps.google.com to access Google local and many others left comments for Google to change it back.

I admit, I was a little disappointed when they changed it to "Google Local" as "Google Maps" was already a part of my vocabulary.  I even continued to speak of the service with the old name — as did many others, and that is probably a big reason for the change.  They probably don’t want to get into an identity crisis like Microsoft has with their Start.com/Live.com/MSN Search/who knows what else mess.

I think Google Maps was in everybody's vocabulary after it was released because it was so much better than the other map sites. "Google Local" was doomed from the start.

And as Andy Samberg says,
