Tabs are on the way for Personalized Homepage
Earlier today I mentioned a feature I would like to see as part of the Google Personalized Homepage — tabs. According to the author of a gadget that does exactly what I want to see, recent updates to the service has broken his gadget. Upon further investigation he has found that native tab support is well on it’s way.
Digging through the code gives us some clear indicators that Google is about to add tabs to the personalized homepage — however there is no word yet on how it will actually look.
Here is some hints you can find in the stylesheet (I have removed some verbosity):
.tabspacer {…}
.tab {…}
.selectedtab {…}
.unselectedtab {…}
.tab_hover {…}
.edittab {…}
.addatab {…}
.addatab a {…}
And the javascript also drops a few interesting functions that are not used anywhere:
function _editTab(ig_) { … }
function _renameTab() { … }
So, we can guarantee Google is working on tabs, the only question now is what will they look like, and how long until they show up on our personalized homepages?
