Google VP speaks of plans for the coming year
Dave Girouard, VP and general manager of Google's enterprise division, went on record in an interview with internetnews.com about what we can expect in the coming year. It sounds like they have big plans in the enterprise space — and I have a feeling it will start with "Google Apps for Your Enterprise" monetized by relatively cheap user licenses.
"We're building towards a big future [in the enterprise space], big licensing or subscription business, and moving into a lot of other potential businesses over time,"
Girouard also says we can look forward to a Google Talk that will connect you to real phones — not just IP to IP calls. This has been in the rumor mill since Google Talk was first launched, but now it sounds like 2007 will be the year we see it happen.
Combining JotSpot and Orkut could create an interesting collaboration platform according Girouard as well. JotSpot is a company they very recently acquired, and Orkut is Google's social network site most widely used in Brazil.
The most interesting thing referred to in the interview is offline access to data — I found code hidden away in writely hinting at this very feature in October. This could also be hinting at GDrive — a way to store and sync data found on your computer. I guess we'll see in 2007!
