Checkout now available in the UK

Google Checkout has started reaching out to merchants in United Kingdom.  Previously, people in the UK could only purchase items using the service — but now they can begin integrating the service into their websites to sell items too.  Many people would agree that this is a long overdue step forward for Google Checkout.

We can only hope now that support for other countries is just around the corner, but I'm not going to hold my breath.  In order for Google to see the growth and adoption rate needed to be classified as a success, this product will have to find its way into several other countries.  I firmly believe the reason its adoption has been relatively slow is the geographic limitations it puts on sellers.

What do you think?  Will opening up this service to more countries give Google a better chance at success?
