Close all Google accounts: Google doesn't care about privacy
I know, the title is ridiculous — but that’s exactly what Privacy International is saying about Google in a report that was published today. They gave Google the lowest possible score when it comes to privacy according to the AP. It’s funny how they know so much about their horrible practices when they even admit Google didn’t respond to their request for information. Certainly that means their practices are the worst on the internet.
“We are disappointed with Privacy International’s report, which is based on numerous inaccuracies and misunderstandings about our services,” said Nicole Wong, Google’s deputy general counsel.
“It’s a shame that Privacy International decided to publish its report before we had an opportunity to discuss our privacy practices with them.”
Privacy International contacted Google earlier this month, but didn’t receive a response, said Simon Davies, the group’s director.
Now Privacy International is accusing Google of using the media to discredit the organization and their findings. It couldn’t be the report itself causing this backlash could it?
As Privacy International prepares to publish the first privacy ranking of major Internet companies, Google has embarked on a smear campaign within the media to discredit both PI and the report. The report, to be published on the PI site on Saturday June 9, 2007 at 7.00pm EST, ranks the privacy performance of the top Internet service companies. Privacy International will simultaneously publish a detailed open letter to Google and a demand for an apology.
Clearly Google doesn’t care about privacy — excuse me while I download several months worth of “anonymous” search history from a company with better privacy practices than Google. (Please note the sarcasm)
