Google Video and YouTube updates

There are several separate stories about Google Video and YouTube floating around the blogosphere — some new features, some “woops” moments and some integration news.

Let’s start with the new features. Google Video is now officially a “video search engine” according to Haochi. He shows us that when you click on a video that has come up in your search results but doesn’t belong to Google, you are sent to the video, but they put their own frame at the top with more information about the video in question. They have basically done for videos what they did for images with Google Image Search.

Philipp Lenssen points out some interesting comments in the YouTube flash player found by Chad Upton — they were certainly never meant to be seen by the public. They are vulgar and I don’t think publishing the full text of them is appropriate for this blog, but here is the censored version (see the original comments here):

  • we got meta !@#$ yeah
  • showing the !@%@!$#% play button

YouTube now also supports Google Accounts for users to log in with — giving potential YouTube members an easier way to get started if they already have a Google account.
