Google testing comments on Google News
Google is testing out comments on Google News, but there is one catch. To comment on the story, you must be a part of it — that means, if you are referenced within the article, or you are the author yourself, feel free to elaborate or clear up anything that may be mis-reported or simply could strengthen an argument.
Our long-term vision is that any participant will be able to send in their comments, and we’ll show them next to the articles about the story. Comments will be published in full, without any edits, but marked as “comments” so readers know it’s the individual’s perspective, rather than part of a journalist’s report.
Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land labels this feature as “weird”, however I am impressed with the direction that Google News is taking here. If they are successful, and the feature becomes widely used, people will have no choice but to use Google News if they want the full story. Simply no other news source will be as accurate, unbiased or have as much information as Google News.
