View attached spreadsheets in Google Docs

Philipp has the scoop on a brand new feature for Gmail that makes attached spreadsheet files (.xls) more accessible.  By clicking on a new link, you can open attachments in Google Docs & Spreadsheets directly without any extra steps.

Of course after I read the news, I tried emailing myself a spreadsheet — but it was a little buggy.  Clicking on the link gave me an error that said "We're sorry, we could not locate the attachment you are trying to view".

A few refreshes later, the document appeared as expected — but opening the file again caused the same error.  I don't know what would cause this other than slow propagation over the Google Spreadsheets servers.

This new feature is very useful, and could give Google Docs & Spreadsheets the attention it needs to break the adoption threshold.  It is only a matter of time before the same feature is available for other document types like Microsoft Word files.
