3.2 mln broadband VOIP subscribers in the US in 2005
While still a young application, Broadband IP Telephony has gained significant momentum over the last two years, with projected US subscribers reaching over 3.2 mln by the end of 2005, reports In-Stat. VoIP is beginning to radically transform the world of telecommunications. Carriers and enterprises are gradually shifting from their traditional circuit-switched infrastructure to VoIP. Customer education and acceptance, including concerns over service quality are still major challenges for service providers. Loss of connectivity during power outages and E911 limitations remain concerns as well. At the end of 2004, In-Stat estimates there were over 1.3 mln Broadband IP lines in use in the US, with growth projected to 3.9 mln by the end of 2005.
