Silicon wafer area shipments up 6% in 2005
Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments increased by 6% in 2005 when compared to 2004 area shipments according to the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group (SMG). Revenues also grew by 8% in 2005 compared to 2004. Silicon wafer area shipments in 2005 totaled 6,645 mln square inches (MSI), up from the 6,262 mln square inches shipped during 2004. Revenues grew to $7.9 bln from $7.3 bln posted in 2004. Q4 2005 silicon area shipments increased 4% from the Q3 2004 and were 23% above Q4 2004 shipments.
