44% of Americans believe Google should have turned the search data to the Feds
50% of respondents to the University of Connecticut’s poll said Google shouldn’t turn over search queries to the government, while 44% said they should. The responses reflected partisan differences about the Bush administration request, with 67% of Democrats opposing the data release, compared with 30% of Republicans. Asked whether they support government monitoring of search behaviors of ordinary Americans, 65% of respondents were opposed, compared with 30% in favor. 60% opposed the permanent storage of search records by Internet companies, which search engines argue they need to keep in order to improve their services.
