Screen Digest researched the television and broadband Internet markets in Portugal. Portuguese Telecom owns the largest broadband ISP, Sapo, with 90% market share of the DSL market. Its TV Cabo cable unit controls the largest cable modem broadband service with 70% of the cable broadband market. 40% of Portuguese television homes take cable services and Portugal Telecom’s TV Cabo cable division controls more than 80% of the total cable market. Its satellite service, also called TV Cabo, is a wholly digital offer that is taken by just over 12% of television homes. Three other cable companies share the remaining 18% of the cable market between them. The largest is Cabovisao with about 15% of the market. Bragatel and Pluricanal make up the remainder.
