SEMI: Orders for chipmaking equipment up

Orders for microchip-making equipment from North American manufacturers rose 7% from the prior month, indicating a robust upturn for next year, a trade group said on Thursday. The three-month average of worldwide orders in November 2003 was $930 mln, above the revised October figure of $871 mln, and 20% above November 2002 orders of $777 mln, said Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International, or SEMI.
