Chinese WLAN market falls 28.7% in Q1 2004
China’s WLAN equipment market only reached 112 million yuan (about US$13.5 million) in Q1, a 28.7% fall on quarter but a 36.6% gain on year, according to the government-sponsored China Center of Information Industry Development (CCID). Before the WAPI (WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure) deadline was postponed indefinitely, the impending requirement had a negative impact on major market players, like some local enterprises and telecom providers, according to general manager Vincent Huang of Chunghwa Information Communication Technology, the Taiwan agent for CCID Consulting.
