Asian-Pacific disk storage revenues up 5.7% in Q3 2004

According to IDC, external disk storage customer revenue in Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) in Q3 2004 grew by 5.7% to $445.0 mln from $421.1 mln recorded in Q2 2004. YTY growth was 9.1% from $407.9 mln recorded in Q3 2003. External storage capacity showed strong growth of 22.9%, at 22,076 TBs in Q3 2004, up from 17,957 TBs in Q2 2004. Total external disk storage capacity shipped in the quarter increased by 77.4% over Q3 2003. External storage accounted for 78.1% of revenue and 66.6% of the total capacity shipped in the quarter. The results indicate that ongoing demand for storage capacity remains strong for all countries throughout the Asia/Pacific region. Storage capacity is becoming cheaper. There was a decrease of 14.0% in the average cost of a GB of external storage capacity from $23.45 in Q2 2004 to $20.16 in Q3 2004.
