Silicon wafer area shipments up 25% in Q3 2004

Worldwide silicon wafer area shipments in Q3 2004 increased 1% sequentially and 25% YTY according to the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group. Silicon wafer area shipments totaled 1,629 mln square inches during the most recent quarter compared to the 1,619 mln square inches in shipments reported during Q2 2004. Silicon revenues experienced 4.5% growth from Q2 2004 and 34.3% growth from Q3 2003 as a result of increased prices in all diameter sales, greater 300-mm diameter wafer sales and overall volume demand.
