$234 mln charged to Visa cards on Black Friday

E-commerce transactions on US Visa credit and debit cards on Black Friday (Nov 26) increased 28.1%, to $234 mln from $183 mln a year ago, Visa reports. Total Black Friday volume on Visa cards rose 15.5% to $4.136 bln. The number of Black Friday e-commerce transactions on Visa cards rose 18.7% YTY to $3.33 bln. The total number of transactions on Visa cards on Black Friday was 64.54 bln, up 17.5% YTY.

For the month of November through Black Friday, e-commerce sales on Visa cards totaled $7.54 bln, and the average online purchase was $70.51. Total Visa volume for the same period reached $84.543 mln, with an average purchase of $64.09. Visa said YTY overall sales on Visa cards rose 20.9% for discount, mass merchant and drug retailers; 15.7% for department store and apparel retailers; and 15.6% for home-and-garden products.
