Japan 3G facts: 30 mln subscribers, 7 mln digital wallets, 5 mln digital songs sold
3G was introduced in Japan already in 2001 and has to date attracted more than 30 mln subscribers. 5 mln songs have been downloaded since a service for downloading entire songs directly to the mobile handset was launched in November 2004, and 30 mln handsets with contactless chips can be used to pay with in 7 mln shops throughout the country, Berg Insight says.
