66% of Australian parents say their kids are more Internet-savvy
66% of Australian parents believe their children to be more Internet and technology savvy than they are themselves, according to Nielsen//NetRatings. One of the most significant developments on the Australian Internet access market in the past two years was the massive leap in home broadband uptake, and this enticed daily Internet use amongst parents to grow from 55% in 2003 to 74% in 2005. Where 88% of Australian parents have used the Internet, only 77% of the general Australian adult population is online. Similarly, 96% of Australian households with online children have a PC in the home and 86% have a home Internet connection compared with 81% PC ownership and only 64% home Internet access among the general Internet population.
