Worldwide security appliance revenues up 16.6% in Q2 2005

According to IDC, the worldwide security appliance market grew factory revenue 16.6% YTY to $613 mln dollars in Q2 2005, marking the 9th consecutive quarter of double-digit YTY growth. Standalone firewall/VPN appliances dropped from 68%% of the overall security appliance market in Q2 2004 to 51% of the worldwide security appliance market in Q2 2005. Meanwhile, Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliances doubled their market share to 23.6% in Q2 2005 compared to Q2 2004. Intrusion Detection and Prevention (ID&P) appliances also grew in Q2 2005, from 18.8% of the market in Q2 2004 to almost 25% in Q2 2005.
