57 mln US households invest in stocks
Among stock investors, 28% are concerned about short-term investment fluctuations, compared with 23% in 2002, according to Investment Company Institute and Securities Industry Association. 57 mln US households own stock directly or through mutual funds. That figure is up slightly from 2002, when 54.1 mln households owned stock. More than 50% of all equity investors today own only stock mutual funds.
