The sun came up this morning
So the end of the Gates era at Microsoft begins. That’s right, it’s the beginning of the end. As is almost always the case with Microsoft, two schools of thought are emerging.
- The It’s-about-time crowd wonders why it took so long.
- The It-should-have-been-Ballmer crowd thinks… well, you figure it out.
In other news, another zero-day exploit of Office is underway. Hint: do not open any Excel files you receive unless you know the sender and trust them not to forward malware-infested garbage to you. If you have any doubts, check with the sender first to make sure they intentionally sent you a file.
But really, I don’t much care right now. I’m in beautiful Telluride, Colorado, listening to world-class musicians jam at the annual Bluegrass Festival and it’s pretty hard to think too hard about any of this. Fellow ZDNet blogger Ed Bott is here as well and we thought about doing a podcast discussion about Gates’ announcement. Then we decided we might do that this weekend. We’ll see. Maybe if the weather proves to be uncooperative.
