Gates goes from architect to oddsmaker

This is getting ridiculous. Bill Gates is now quoting odds on when and whether Vista will ship. Current line? 80% it will ship in January 2007. Sheesh!

Look… I get it that Vista is big project that has encountered many obstacles to release. But when the founder and Chief Software Architect’s best public line is laying odds on a release, I’ve got to express my concern for where this company is headed. What’s next? A betting line at the sports book?

"Put a grand on Vista not shipping at 3:1 Vinny."

What is wrong with simply leaving well enough alone until you can say something with certainty? It’s not like this kind of statement is going to help the stock price or make anyone considering whether to upgrade more confident. The FUD is getting ticker by the day and the irony that it’s Microsoft generating FUD about its own products and plans is not lost on me… or most of you, I’ll wager.

Sorry… couldn’t resist.
