Intel Quad Core CPU drops below $280!

The long awaited price drops on Intel Quad Core CPUs have finally arrived and the Intel Q6600 2.4 GHz Quad Core CPU is now below $280.  MWave has the chip for $279.00 while Newegg has it for $299 (including shipping).  From now on I’m going to have to update my mainstream chip of choice to the Intel Q6600.  Then if I can crank this baby to 3.6 GHz using DDR2-800 with the help of some aggressive cooling and a mild voltage boost, I’ll be in heaven.

[Update 7/24/2007 - The availability at $279 just went to zero and the only way to buy one now is to spend $100 more over the new reduced pricing.  The price probably won't settle down to normal for a few weeks due to extreme demand right now. This is exactly what happened last year when the Core 2 Duo E6600 was released.  The processor is simply too good of a deal for the money right now and the demand outstrips supply.  If you were lucky enough to order one yesterday, good for you!  Otherwise be patient for a few weeks and it will drop when supply and demand balances out.]
