Flash Player 9 has 84.3% penetration as of March
While the official numbers haven't been released yet, it looks like (scroll down, it's in the comment section) the latest Flash Player survey puts Flash Player 9 penetration at 84.3% up from 55% in mature markets as of December. That's a significant jump and shows just how quickly Adobe can roll out new versions of the player.
Part of this jump has to be due to the fact that MySpace is now requiring Flash Player 9 for its users, but 84.3% of the internet is not on MySpace. This is pretty close to the magical number that a lot of Flash shops have been waiting for before moving to Player 9. When they do this, it's going to mean big speed increases and better video quality across the board. It also means more people will be willing to look at Flex 2, which requires Flash Player 9. All this adds up to an increasingly positive developer story for Adobe.
