Scrybe gets venture funding from Adobe, LMKR
Today Scrybe, the company that generated so much buzz with their YouTube video demo last year, announced that they’ve closed a Series A round of funding with Adobe and LMKR. TechCrunch has some addition commentary. The amount of funding (as usual) wasn’t disclosed but it was part of our announced venture program. I couldn’t be happier about this and the fact that Adobe is involved makes it even better. Scrybe has been doing some really amazing things with Flash and they have been doing a great job of continuing to innovate on the platform. I’ve been on the beta list for some time and have been very impressed with the application they’ve put together. I have a gallery here if you want to take a look at screenshots from the application.
It has been a lot of fun for me to watch the company grow first as someone who was just interested in the technology and then recently as someone on the inside of Adobe who thinks Scrybe is a great showcase company. I’ve also had the chance to talk with Faizan Buzdar, the CEO a couple of times about Flash, his company, and the Web 2.0 landscape. They were doing offline before Adobe AIR came along so they’ve been constantly pushing the boundaries of what Flash can do while getting people excited about the product.
In talking with Faizan and knowing some of what’s going on here at Adobe, I think the Scrybe team is looking at how they can expand on their technology and build a solid business behind it. That may change what people see as the roadmap, but in the long run I think it’s going to be a great thing for the company they’ve built. We partnered with them because they’re a great company but also because we believe in the direction they’re moving. It’s going to be an exciting few months.
