I've been told by a third party that a Senior Server engineer at a large County in the San Francisco Bay area iwas notified days prior to the outage of intermittent BlackBerry email activity.

Source then advises me that this engineer was then flagged at exactly 2:58 p.m. PT the day of the outage- that there was an outage and it was on RIMs network.

That places this notification two hours before last week's outage was officially reported.

"Note that North America was in panic at 5:00 PT and wasting resources trying to find the problem on their internal infrastructure," my source tells me.

I plan to talk to this engineer and get more specifics.

If this story pans out- and I strongly believe it will- indicates that BlackBerry really, REALLY needs to work on better network notification tools and best practices.
