Larry posted on some of the initial news regarding the upcoming Palm Pixi and you can now find all the info on the Palm website. The Palm Pixi will be coming to Sprint in time for the holidays and should be more of an entry level device like the Palm Centro. The Palm Pixi has most of the same features as the Palm Pre and will be exclusive to Sprint. Speculation is that it will run in the $99 range while the Pre will drop to $149. Michael Gartenberg had a chance to get some hands-on time with one and posted his first thoughts.

Specifications of the Palm Pixi include:

  • 2.63 inch capacitive touch screen at 320×400 resolution
  • Integrated GPS receiver
  • 2 megapixel camera with LED flash
  • Integrated Bluetooth 2.1
  • 8GB flash memory
  • 3.5mm stereo headset jack

In comparison to the Palm Pre, we see the Pixi has a smaller, slighter lower resoution display (2.63 at 320×400 vs 3.1 at 320×480), lower res camera (2 vs 3 megapixel), and no WiFi radio. As you can truly see it is much like the Palm Centro class of device, which has done very well for Palm in the past. The one thing about the Centro is that there are pretty low profit margins on the device, which may be the case here as well.

Dieter Bohn was in California for a briefing with Palm and took a short video of the Pixi compared to his Palm Pre.
