Palm WebOS will serve as your true personal assistant
A few more details and functionality of the Palm WebOS have been coming out now that the announcement has been made and Palm is moving towards release of the Pre. PreCentral.net posted the Sarah Lacy video interview with Elevation Partner Roger McNamee and there were some real treasures revealed that helps you understand why they invested so much money in Palm late last year. One of the coolest features is the contacts, calendar, and location based intelligence where your Palm Pre serves as your personal assistant.
I attended the Mobius Boston 2006 event a couple years ago and in our particular breakout group we discussed and came up with almost this exact same functionality when we were trying to think outside the box about what could be available on mobile devices in 10 years. A quick summary of our group’s activites were:
I ended up being in the Business user group where we had to come up with a device that would solve all the issues each of the users will have 10 years from now. Our group came up with an innovative priority engine that had an advanced AI that prioritized the life of the user and acted as a mobile personal assistant. Our idea was to have a four quadrant layout where e-mails, calendar events, phone calls, text messages, and more would come into the device and be prioritized automatically. We ended up winning the Most Unique idea award.
More so than the prioritization based on location, calendar, and contacts though we also discussed the same feature of mapping technology. I guess our group should have patented the idea back then and maybe we could have been a part of forming the Palm WebOS.
IMHO, this is the first mobile OS that is taking it to the next level and if Palm can make this type of functionality and more work out of the box I will be even more psyched to get my hands on the Palm Pre.
