The HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro were very popular devices in 2008 and to continue with these lines, HTC announced the Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 at Mobile World Congress. These two Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional devices come with more HTC customization that improves the Windows Mobile experience. HTC has added functionality that allows all voice, text, and email communications from a specific contact to be sorted and viewed at the touch of a finger. The information is available inside the contact card and during a call. The specifications of the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2 are both improved over their first generation models, particularly in regards to screen resolution.

The HTC Touch Diamond2 specs include:

  • Processor: Qualcomm® MSM7200A™, 528 MHz
  • OS: Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional
  • Memory: 512 MB ROM, 288 MB RAM
  • Memory Expansion: microSD™ memory card (SD 2.0 compatible)
  • Dimensions: 4.25 X 2.09 X 0.54 inches (HxWxT)
  • Weight: 4.15 ounces (with battery)
  • Display: 3.2 inch TFT-LCD WVGA (480×800) touchscreen
  • Camera: 5 megapixel autofocus camera
  • Battery: 1100mAh LiIon

As you can see the Touch Diamond gets improved with a larger higher resolution display, larger battery, and increased camera resolution.

The HTC Touch Pro2 specs include:

  • Processor: Qualcomm® MSM7200A™, 528 MHz
  • OS: Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional
  • Memory: 512 MB ROM, 288 MB RAM
  • Memory Expansion: microSD™ memory card (SD 2.0 compatible)
  • Dimensions: 4.57 X 2.33 X 0.68 inches (HxWxT)
  • Weight: 6.17 ounces (with battery)
  • Display: 3.6 inch TFT-LCD WVGA (480×800) touchscreen
  • Camera: 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera
  • Battery: 1500mAh LiIon

The Touch Pro2 also gets a larger, higher resolution display with larger capacity battery. The Touch Pro2 also includes HTC’s new Straight Talk technology that integrates email, voice, and speakerphone communications with an emphasis on corporate-level speakerphone functionality. The asymmetric speakers and advanced noise suppression with full duplex acoustics are used in speakerphone mode that can be automatically turned on when you flip your Touch Pro2 over.

HTC continues to improve on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional by further integrating TouchFLO 3D deeper into the operating system with more consistency in applications and menus. They also expanded the on screen targets so that the devices are more finger friendly.

HTC is including their new HTC Push Internet functionality that is simply stated as allowing users to preselect favorite websites to get immediate access to them when needed. I am not clear yet on how this works, but it must cache these sites in the background on some kind of timed basis or something. I’ll try to find out more about this capability.

The HTC Touch Diamond2 will be available to customers across major European and Asian markets in early Q2 2009 with broader global availability coming later in the year. The Touch Pro2 will be available across major global markets beginning in early summer. We will probably see them in the US in late Summer/early Fall, just before Windows Mobile 6.5 devices are launched in European and Asian markets.
