I was all excited to hear more details about the QuickOffice and Documents To Go clients for Android at Mobile World Congress, but was let down a bit when I saw the QuickOffice announcement. I was expecting that these applications would support full Office functionality, but the QuickOffice client is a viewer only for Word and Excel files. It remains to be seen what DataViz can do with Documents To Go.

Quickoffice for the Android platform should be available in the Android Market now that they are allowing commercial applications, but I am on vacation this week and don’t have access to my G1. The application will be available for US$7.99 and includes the ability to view Word and Excel documents received as an attachment or stored on an external storage card. The viewer lets you zoom and scroll around documents. Telephone numbers, web sites, and email addresses are hyperlinked from within Word files to the applications used for this functionality.

Quickoffice for Android also gives you a file manager to allow you to navigate through folders, rename and delete files, view properties, and sort documents in different ways.
