Rounding up reviews of the new MacBooks

There are plenty of hands-on “previews” of the new MacBooks, but so far it appears only PCMag.com has posted full reviews with ratings and it isn’t too impressed. The new aluminum MacBook’s “features are still a little weak and the price, well, it’s not the $800 MacBook that we were all hoping for.” But it may not matter much since the improved design is “ultimately what sells Macs.” The performance results with the new Intel processor and Nvidia’s just-announced GeForce 9400M chipset were mixed, but PCMag.com ran its tests only under Windows Vista. The story is similar with the 15-inch MacBook Pro, which PCMag.com states is a “design marvel like no other” but its “features aren’t the strongest” and it is, of course, pricey. The least expensive MacBook Pro still starts at $2,000. Here’s a roundup of the reviews and previews coverage to date:
