SanDisk releases Extreme Pro CompactFlash cards

SanDisk has released a new line memory cards: the ExtremePro CompactFlash cards, which feature the company’s Power Core Controller capability, an advanced memory controller that enables read and write speeds of up to 90MB/s1, doubling the performance from previous high-end SanDisk cards.

Ranging from 16 to 64GB capacity, the ExtremePro cards offer storage space for extended shooting sessions without having to reload or worry about running out of space (especially good for those who shoot a lot of large RAW images and HD video on their cameras), and the speedy read and write speed ensures that data will be transfered to the card quicker. They’re also built to be extra durable, working at temperatures ranging from -13 F (-25 C) to 185 F (85 C), with RTV Silicone coating for added protection against moisture and humidity. The cards can also withstand drops of up to nine feet, not to mention that the products carry a lifetime limited warranty.

Here’s a clip with Eric Bone, SanDisk VP of retail product marketing, and photographer Marc Silber testing the new card’s speed in continuous burst mode inside a DSLR:

For an idea of what images shot on these cards might look like, check out SanDisk’s “Extreme Team” pro photographers page. The powerful cards don’t come cheap, however, with the price range for 16GB to 64GB cards ranging from $300 to $800. But for professional photographers who require fast cameras and fast memory cards, this could be a great option. Would you be interested in this product?
