Interested in buying SLR? Don't pay full price

Retail stores and brands are offering bargain basement prices this year, and cameras are no exception.

Canon is pitching rebates on two of its popular models: the Rebel XSi kit with a $200 rebate and the EOS 50D kit with $300 back to you. Those both come with stock lenses. Instant rebates are in effect until July 11. For a complete list of rebates on camera bodies and lenses, CNET has a complete list.

Nikon hasn’t quite stepped up the rebate competition yet, although Adorama has posted a number of rebates from low-end Coolpix models up to SLR. The Nikon D40 kit with two lenses, for example, comes with a rebate for $150. Adorama also has some steal rebates for Sony digital SLRs, including a $400 instant rebate on the Alpha DSLR-A900 kit.

While the other major digital SLR manufacturers haven’t copied Canon’s rebate blitz yet, hopefully their sales will incite Nikon and others to follow suit - soon.
