FOWA 2008 Miami

Ryan Carson has published the top 10 web apps as voted by 3,000 of the weberati. As Ryan says:

This isn’t a scientific survey - it’s more of a straw poll of our friends and colleagues across the industry - but we think the results are pretty conclusive.

Maybe, maybe not and I’m the first to accept the subtext of operating in a bubble environment where many of those interested are edglings.

Of all the apps mentioned, only Twitter and Mint are what I would call vaguely enterprisey. I’ve debated Twitter’s use in business a number of times but Mint is worth a mention if only for the fact it is a downstream application that should be back ended by applications like FreshBooks and FreeAgent. At that point, Mint becomes a powerful tool for all kinds of analysis that would be valuable in a business context. It seems they won for their stats. That’s a good start.

On Twitter, Ryan expressed surprise that Twitter came in at number three with GMail and Flickr taking the top slots respectively but he acknowledged that we’re still in early adopter mode.  As more enterprise applications come into the spotlight, it will be interesting to see how the picture changes. However, it is notable that consumer style applications are catching the attention of those at the bleeding edge of development.

Disclosure: I have a tiny interest in FreeAgent.
