Social media fuels 'Security Twit' road trip

Social media fuels ‘Security Twit’ road tripThe Security Twits is an aptly named term for a growing network of non-marketing security professionals who leverage Twitter to talk shop. It started as a fun idea and it grew into an amazing community resource for RSA Conference and Black Hat and continues to serve as the social hub for security professionals online.

And now? The Security Twits are going on tour.

Security blogger Jack Daniel has procured an RV and is gathering a merry bunch of twits to roam the eastern seaboard next month on their way to the Day-Con II 2008 hacker conference in Dayton, Ohio. The trip, sponsored by network security company Astaro, will start in Boston with potential stops in New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and so on. Daniel will document the entire trip through his blog (both written word and vlogging), his Twitter feed and the RV will be equipped with Internet so other Security Twits can do the same.

What started as a simple little social networking list has turned into a “hackers on wheels” kind of event that will fuel additional social network commentary, blogs, video and will likely recruit more members. If you think you make the cut for the road show, email Daniel to secure your spot for the ride to Day-Con.

Also, in fairness of full disclosure, the official Security Twits list was founded in March by yours truly after fellow ZDNet blogger Ryan Naraine put the bug in my ear. I no longer manage the Security Twits, as my friend and security guru Zach Lanier has taken it over, but they still hold a dear place in my social media heart.
