Android 1.6 officially receives Google Maps Navigation
Own a Google Android phone and feel a little miffed that the Motorola Droid got all the good stuff?
Google announced on Monday that its Google Maps Navigation software, which offers turn-by-turn GPS navigation for your car and your palm, will be available for Android 1.6 Donut, the operating system found on an up-to-date T-Mobile G1, myTouch 3G, HTC Hero, HTC Droid Eris and most other Android phones out in the wild.
(Motorola CLIQ users, keep in mind that you’re using Android 1.5.)
While I can’t say for sure how well the program will run on the G1, which has the smallest amount of memory in the Android roost, I can certainly say that it’s a huge deal for those with the Hero and myTouch 3G.
Google Maps Navigation can be downloaded from the Android Market now.

Dell sells Motorola Droid for $119 with contract; $80 less than Verizon
Dell Mobility is now offering Motorola’s hot new Droid smartphone for $119 with two-year contract.
That’s $80 less than you’ll pay if you walk into a Verizon store and purchase one.

Rumored HTC 'Dragon' Google phone to spar with iPhone, Droid
It was just a month ago that Motorola’s Droid emerged as the best-equipped competitor to Apple’s popular iPhone, but another HTC phone is reportedly waiting in the wings to best them both.
The HTC Dragon, also known as the Passion, is rumored to be in the palms and pockets of “senior Android guys at Google,” reports Michael Arrington at TechCrunch, undergoing testing and poised to make a run at the smartphone throne, or so us reporters would like to think.

Did you buy a Motorola Droid? [open thread]
The Motorola Droid smartphone has arrived on Verizon, and lines were more than 100 people deep here in New York City on launch day.
The mobile device has elicited a kind of excitement I haven’t seen from consumers in a long time — not since the T-Mobile G1 or iPhone 3G. (Not quite the BlackBerry Storm, unfortunately.)
We’ve told you what we think about the device in not one but two reviews. Now it’s your turn.
Did you buy a Droid? Will you? What do you think? Leave your thoughts about the device in TalkBack.

Revisiting the Motorola Droid on Verizon: evaluating the details
Exactly one week ago, I wrote that the Motorola’s new Droid smartphone on Verizon — billed to be the iPhone killer to end all iPhone killers, as far as cliches are concerned — was “the yardstick by which all Android phones are to be measured.”
In that review, I took a high-level approach and focused on the significance of the device for Motorola, Verizon and the Android ecosystem at large. But many of you rightly wanted to know more about the quirks and details of the handset, and on the eve of the Droid’s nationwide availability, I’ve decided to write this post to address as many of those as I can.
I also snapped new pictures in daylight that illustrate key features, which you can view here.

Second Motorola Droid ad lands: 'What in the world is that?'
The second Verizon advertisement for the Motorola Droid smartphone has landed, and it’s a full minute of cinematic storytelling, in the form of vaguely apocalyptic imagery and a good dose of alien charm.

With Motorola Droid, Verizon puts doubts about Google Android platform to rest [review]
Motorola is back in a big way.
Motorola’s Droid made a big splash two weeks ago when it debuted in a Verizon teaser ad during prime-time across the country and slammed America’s favorite smartphone, the Apple iPhone. Now that it’s finally been fully revealed, it’s clear that the Droid has become the yardstick by which all Android smartphones are to be measured.

Motorola Droid vs. Apple iPhone 3GS vs. Palm Pre [spec shootout]
Billshrink.com has compiled a table pitting the Apple iPhone 3GS against the new Motorola Droid against Palm’s Pre — the big three, as far as I’m concerned, in the smartphone race.
The complete showdown, after the jump:

Motorola Droid official specifications leaked: 16:9 touchscreen, DVD-quality video, 0.5" thick
Whoops! Motorola’s dedicated site to the Droid Google Android 2.0-based smartphone on Verizon accidentally went live tonight, and it’s chock full of stats and specs for the highly-anticipated device.
The site calls it a “pint-sized power plant,” “app-mashing” and “multitasking” with “power” and “intelligence.” In other words, putting the smart back into smartphone.
Here’s the rundown of nearly everything you need to know about the Motorola Droid:
