JVC unveils new camcorder that uploads directly to YouTube
Coming over the morning tech wire is an introduction to JVC’s newest camcorder that offers one-button uploading to YouTube.
The company positions the new JVC Everio S Series memory camcorder, the GZ-MS100, directly above the popular Flip by marketing it as a full-fledged camcorder with Internet video capability. The GZ-MS100 is slightly smaller than the rest of the Everio G Series (reviewed here, here and here, for just three examples) and weights 0.60 lbs including a roughly two-hour battery.
The camcorder records to SD cards, which the company says will allow the Everio to keep up with the tech rat race over time, unlike recorders with static, non-expandable drives (never mind progress in the lens department!).
How exactly does it upload straight to YouTube? The camcorder has an UPLOAD button that, when pressed, is programmed to limit recordings to 10 minutes in length, YouTube’s maximum file size limit (again, nevermind if YouTube increases this limit later). After recording is finished, the user can connect the GZ-MS100 to a PC via a USB cable and press the UPLOAD button, launching a supplied application for uploading to YouTube(TM).
JVC says the original video quality is maintained in the camera, so it can be used for any other purpose.
On the standard-issue front, the camcorder comes with a Konica Minolta lens with 35x optical zoom, the company’s proprietary Gigabrid Engine with six digital noise reduction systems (to improve the S/N ratio), Program AE with shooting modes to accommodate a variety of situations (Night, Twilight, Portrait, Sports, Snow, Spotlight), Digital Image Stabilizer to minimize camera-shake, and more.
