The much-awaited and talked about “Wii Sports Resort” is almost here — and just in time for summer. According to a Reuters story posted today, Nintendo said it will launch a new version of “Wii Sports” in Japan in June, and in the U.S. in July.

The new game uses the same MotionPlus technology as the current “Wii Sports” version, but takes users to a new setting: the beach. There, you can pretend you’re back in ‘96 playing “Wave Race 64,” with the new “Power Cruising” jet ski game. You can also play Frisbee with your dog, or act out your favorite sword-fighting scenes with the fencing feature.

Nintendo hit a record-breaking operating profit for the year ending on March 31, 2009, of about $5.3 billion, which includes both Wii and Nintendo DS sales.

The game is supposed to hit in the heat of summer. If you want to stay active by playing Frisbee with your pooch, but it’s just too hot to go outside, stay indoors where it’s air-conditioned, and play with your virtual dog. Stay tuned for more about the Wii “Sports Resort.”
