Sager NP9280 has Core i7, triple SSDs; world's most powerful laptop
Good grief, how much tech can you pack into a laptop?
The superlative-laden Sager NP9280 is the world’s first Core i7 laptop to ship and the world’s most powerful laptop, apparently.
Engadget details the sleeper system, which looks like a laptop circa 1997 but hides within a Core i7 CPU joined to Intel’s X58 chipset with triple channel DDR3 memory, 1GB of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M graphics, and a 17.1-in., 1920 by 1200 resolution display.
That enough for ya?
There’s a 12-cell Li-Ion battery to power it all — who knows for how long — which also includes a trio of SATA HDDs or SSDs, 4 built-in speakers, eSATA, HDMI and DVI video outputs, an 3 megapixel webcam, and 4 USB 2.0 jacks plus a single Firewire port.
So how much junk is in this thing’s trunk? Glad you asked: it tips the scales at an incredible 11.55 lbs. with dimensions of 15.5 by 11.75 by 2.35. So yes, you’ll need a new laptop bag (reinforced with kevlar).
The NP9280 starts at about $2,000, but you can go all the way (Core i7 975 Extreme Edition CPU, 12GB of DDR3 memory, and 3 160GB SSDs) for more than $7,000.
