AT&T will release a software update for the RIM BlackBerry Bold handset this afternoon.

The update will feature a number of enhancements, including:

  • The ability for the user to manually select 2G or 3G network connectivity (depending on availability);
  • A download icon for AT&T’s Visual Voicemail service (store up to 40 messages for 14 days)
  • Additional icons for other applications, including MobiTV, Mobile Banking, Tetris and Scrabble
  • “General handset optimizations”

BlackBerry Bold users can install the software over the air by clicking Options > Advanced Options > Wireless Update on their handset. The update is also available via the web, or with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
