SanDisk introduces slightly improved Sansa Clip+ MP3 player

SanDisk Corporation, one of the major global leaders in flash memory cards, announced its new MP3 player today: the Sansa Clip+. The Sansa Clip+ has a new microSD memory card slot that allows the user to easily add and listen to thousands of songs. Plus, it’s staying with the same spirit of inexpensive audio with 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB options for $39.99, $49.99, and $69.99, respectively.

Not too much has changed from the original Sansa Clip. The player is still small (2.1 inches tall by 1.3 wide by 0.4-inch thick), and light weight (0.9 ounce), but it now has a slightly less blocky design. A downside to the player is it only has a 1-inch screen.

On the other hand, it has a built-in mic for voice recording, as well as an FM tuner with an autoscan mode and 40 preset slots. CNET says the FM tuner has better reception than its predecessor.

The Sansa Clip+’s new MicroSD card slot addition can accept SDHC cards up to 16GB. For example, if you purchase the 8GB player and a 16GB SDHC card, you would have a 24GB player for about $110 — not a bad deal.

The Sansa Clip+ is compatible with SanDisk slotRadio and slotMusic cards, as well as any microSD card that is pre-loaded with music. These cards allow the user to listen to music without using any of the players onboard memory.

The battery is said to last about 15 hours. The Windows 7-certified MP3 player also supports music download/subscription services like Rhapsody and Napster.

It is available now in red, blue, or black at BestBuy.com and at Sandisk.com. It will be available at other retailers nationwide on September 13. The players can hold about 250 songs per 1GB of memory.
