A plug-in turbodiesel hybrid car that can go 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than 5 seconds, top out at 155 m.p.h. and get 75 m.p.g. in the process.

That’s what BMW has created, all packed into the skin of a 2+2 gullwing AWD supercar.

Instead of a gas-hogging V8, the car has 98 lithium cells hooked into two electric motors paired with a three-cylinder turbodiesel engine.

Want to know how BMW did it? Read it on SmartPlanet’s Smart Takes blog.
