Get ready for a whole new world of USB products comin’ round the bend.

The USB Implementers Forum on Tuesday announced the availability of the USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed USB) Compliance and Certification Program, allowing manufacturers to use the SuperSpeed USB logo after qualifying for compliance with the USB 3.0 specification.

The SuperSpeed USB logo promises interoperability with existing USB 2.0 products and the 3.0 improvements, naturally.

USB is “the most successful interface in history” with more than three billion devices shipped in 2008, so the USB 3.0 spec is as high-profile as it gets.

By 2013, SuperSpeed USB will represent approximately 30 percent of the USB market, according to industry analyst firm In-Stat.

The USB 3.0 specification was developed by the USB 3.0 Promoter Group, which consists of Intel Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, Microsoft Corporation, NEC Corporation, ST-Ericsson and Texas Instruments.
