Gizmodo is saying they’ve got their hands on two photos of the definitive HTC-made T-Mobile G2, successor and stablemate to the first Google Android phone on the market, the T-Mobile G1. It’s not the best photo by any means, but it will have to do:

Some traits of the new sibling? Thinner, glossier, without keyboard and with curves.  Oh, and a 3.2 megapixel camera…probably without a flash.

Why does this phone matter? For one, because it will offer smartphone users a new hardware option for the open-source Google Android operating system, which has been reviewed favorably here on ZDNet and elsewhere. Secondly, because it represents HTC’s chance to rebuke any of the criticisms of the G1.

(Thirdly, because the Palm Pre is not out yet and we need a new smartphone to oogle over.)

The G2 is rumored to have a May launch date set, by the way. It’s not much of a looker, but that’s just my opinion. What’s yours?
